About xmr0.uk and its Monero privacy guides

Independent guides to Monero privacy and the security around it: what the protocol hides, how it hides it, and where it stops. Nobody pays to be in them, and every figure names where it came from.

What this is

xmr0.uk is a set of guides to Monero privacy: how the protocol hides who paid, who was paid and how much, and where that protection ends. It is written in British English for readers who know security and want the mechanism explained rather than the slogan repeated.

What it covers

Monero first, and around it the rest of the subject: other privacy coins and how their models compare, the peer-to-peer algorithms that keep a node's address out of a transaction, and the security of the wallets and software that hold the keys. The guides are grouped by where a payment can give itself away — the protocol, the network and the wallet — with a guide to the rules on privacy coins in the EU and the UK.

Mining is not covered here. Monero's proof of work, RandomX, has a site of its own: random.directory.

The rules

  1. Every figure names where it came from

A parameter, a date or a version number comes from the Monero project, its code or whoever published it, and the guide says which and when it was checked. Where the code and the documentation disagree, the guide says so.

  2. No price talk, no trading advice

What a coin is worth changes by the hour and is not this site's subject. The guides are about how the privacy works, not about buying or selling.

  3. Privacy is a security property

The guides treat what Monero hides the way a security engineer treats encryption: a property of the system, with a threat model, a mechanism and limits. They explain how it works and where it fails, and how a holder can disclose a payment on purpose; they are not a guide to getting round anyone's rules.

  4. Nothing here is paid for

No project, exchange or company pays to be mentioned, ranked or linked. A name in a guide is there because it is the source of the fact.
